Baotou enterprise launches first rare earth permanent magnet rail vehicle

Updated: 2025-07-18

The first rare earth permanent magnet rail vehicle in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region was launched on July 17 in the assembly workshop of a Baotou company. Its core component, a dual permanent magnet drive unit, can increase vehicle efficiency by 15 percent, reduce vehicle volume by 50 percent, and increase motor torque by 30 percent.

The vehicle features significant breakthroughs in efficient, low-carbon, and safe operations. Its permanent magnet motor is maintenance free, reducing maintenance costs by 50 percent, increasing the efficiency of key component replacement by 40 percent, and achieving a service life of 100,000 hours.

The modular body design supports quick disassembly/assembly, and the fully enclosed motor compartment adapts to extreme underground environments. The third-generation product has a starting torque 2.5 times greater than the rated value, and vehicle noise can be reduced to below 60 decibels, achieving "zero emission" operation.

After years of trial and error, the company's R&D team has developed closed-loop vector control technology that enables stepless speed regulation, smooth operation, 100 percent recovery of braking energy, and a failure safety emergency braking system. These core functions significantly enhance vehicle safety and lay the foundation for operational reliability.

An increasing number of innovative enterprises are setting up operations in the standardized factory buildings of the rare earth permanent magnet motor industry park. The total planned area of the standardized factory buildings is 274 mu (18.27 hectares), which will be built in three phases.

As of now, eight standardized factory buildings, R&D buildings, and supporting infrastructure for daily life of phase Ⅰ have been put into use, attracting seven enterprises. The standardized factory buildings of 28,000 square meters of phase Ⅱ have been completed. The bidding process for phase Ⅲ is about to commence.
